The Inquiry Design Model (IDM)
The Inquiry Design Model, designed by C3Teachers.org, provides a flexible model for History/Social Science teachers to use when making the instructional shifts endorsed by the new California History/Social Science Framework. The new state framework, adopted in July 2016, significantly incorporates methodology developed by the National Council for the Social Studies in their 2013 publication, College, Career, and Civic (C3) Life Framework for Social Studies State Standards. Central to the C3 Framework is the Inquiry Arc, which represents the elements of comprehensive inquiry-based learning as a dedicated instructional practice. Conveniently, the elements of the Inquiry Design Model and the Inquiry Arc allow for easy integration of Common Core Literacy standards for History and Social Science.
